Like many other eighteen-year-olds, I’ll be headed off to College in August. Now, I will be attempting to bring ALL of my Essential Oils with me, but because I am moving across the United States and will be living in a dorm that might not be entirely possible. So, if I had to choose only TEN oils to bring with me it would be these.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is a catch-all when it comes to Essential Oils. That is why it is on this list. Whether I’ll be dealing with restless nights, seasonal threats, or just want to diffuse a calming oil this oil can help through it all.
Lemon Essential Oil
It is no secret to my family that I LOVE Lemon water, and it being in oil form only makes it easier to enjoy. However, Lemon Essential Oil is useful in ways other than flavoring my water. I can diffuse it so that my dorm room smells clean and happy or I can dilute with water and use it to actually clean when I inevitably make a mess.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint is the perfect oil to help ease headaches, promote focus, and for asthmatics like myself, support respiratory function. This oil is also great at helping to support your immune system from seasonal threats. Which is particularly helpful for a nature lover such as myself.
Basil Essential Oil
Okay, so this oil might seem a little strange to put on my top ten dorm room oils, but for me, it makes perfect sense. Basil can help to soothe and relieve muscle pains after a day of activity or a workout. I also like to put one or two drops in my water when dealing with side effects of the menstrual cycle such as cramps or nausea. Also, if I should be so lucky as to do some cooking other than in the microwave while living in the dorms a drop of Basil would immediately improve any Italian dish.
Copaiba Essential Oil
Copaiba Essential Oil is an oil I use EVERYDAY. I take it with my vitamins each morning to support my immune system, promote clear skin, and to help calm emotions such as anxious feelings, which are heavily associated with College or School in general. I said Lavender was a catch-all but Copaiba is the catch-all on steroids.
On Guard Essential Oil Blend
Living on campus and being constantly surrounded by and interacting with people will expose my immune system to many potential threats. This protective blend will support my immune system and allow me to, hopefully, survive the dorms without getting sick. I will probably be using the On Guard spray as a hand sanitizer or diffusing the blend when I or the people around me start to feel a little iffy.
Breathe Essential Oil Blend
Breathe Essential Oil is one of doTERRA’s most popular blends, and it’s no surprise to me why. The blend emits a fresh minty aroma and can help support respiratory function, which as I mentioned in the peppermint function, is such a helpful effect for asthmatics. It is especially useful to support respiratory function while exercising.
Melaleuca Essential Oil
Melaleuca aka Tea Tree oil is amazing for purifying and supporting skin health. I can use it on scrapes, scratches, or what I usually have to use it on: acne. Also, whenever I get stuffy noses or am affected by seasonal threats I can use Melaleuca and Peppermint in hot water and the steam helps support both respiratory and immune systems.
Frankincense Essential Oil
This is the go-to oil if I’m not sure what to use. It promotes cellular function, supports the appearance of clear skin, and promotes balanced emotions. I also tend to use Frankincense with Melaleuca on scrapes or cuts.
BeYOUtiful Essential Oil Blend
This blend is full of floral Essential oils and is supportive of uplifting emotions. I can see myself using this during many stressful study sessions or just on a day when I’m not feeling quite myself. However, seeing as this is a convention exclusive oil it might not be available to everyone.
I only have this oil because my sister was kind enough to gift it to me. If I didn’t have this oil I would definitely bring Motivate Essential Oil Blend. Motivate supports focus and is the perfect oil to apply when working on a project or essay!
doTERRA Essential Oils
I recommend only one brand of essential oils. Please do not use these tips if you are going to go out and buy the cheapest brands that you can find.
When it comes to essential oils, you get what you pay for. There’s hardly any regulation on the essential oil market so you have to do your due diligence when purchasing oils.
After research, I fell on doTERRA. DoTERRA holds themself to the highest purity and safety standards on the market. Plus, they hold themselves to fair trade and sustainability practices.
You can learn more about doTERRA’s CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) standards on my blog post about it.
You can get doTERRA essential oils for full price here. Or you can get a costco-like wholesale membership and pay 25% less than retail. Learn more about the wholesale membership here.
