I think most of us know that we are supposed to wash fruits and vegetables before eating them – even if they will be peeled. Fruit and veggies straight from the store (or farm) are covered in icky bacteria and other contaminants. Some fruits are even coated with a layer of wax to make them last longer in the stores.
What’s the best way to wash your fruits and veggie, you ask?
I like to use my essential oils!
You won’t wash fruits and veggies with soap – duh! And just water doesn’t seem like enough.
We have a routine that we go through when we bring our produce home from the store. Our produce usually doesn’t even end up in the fridge until it’s been washed – and I swear my fruits and veggies last longer because of it. (Although I haven’t actually tested it, yet)
I have washed a variety of fruits and veggies like this including: apples, cucumbers, strawberries, blueberries, peppers, tomatoes, and more!
How to wash fruits & veggies with essential oils:
1. Add your fruits and veggies to the sink. Fill up the sink with water, 1 cup of vinegar, and 5-8 drops of a Citrus Oil like doTERRA’s Lemon, Lime, or Wild Orange Essential Oil.
2. Let the fruits and veggies soak for about 15 minutes
3. Drain sink
4. Scrub and rinse clean!!
It’s so easy and I KNOW for certain that my fruits and veggie are clean enough to eat! Plus my kitchen always smells fabulous after I wash my produce!
Hint:
For produce you don’t want to soak, just spray your produce with a mix of water and EO! I keep a citrus oil and water in a spray bottle in my kitchen. So when I need to clean a watermelon, I just spray the melon and wipe clean. When I need to clean lettuce, I don’t soak it, I spray it and rinse.
