So can you visit a doTERRA farm?
Yes absolutely!! There are many opportunities!
Just this year (2019) you can go on these trips:
?Nepal in April
?Nepal in May
?Bulgaria in July
?Guatemala in October
?Two trip opportunities to Kenya in November
(Plus there are more special opportunities like the Blue Diamond trip where they planted Hawaiian Sandalwood)
Feel free to head over to doTERRA.com and check out the cō-impacting sourcing trips! One of these days I’m going to make it on one of them!!
No, you can’t just go to any farm at anytime ?
These farms are privately owned farms, many times these are small artisan farmers.
DoTERRA does things differently.
They go find family farms – many times multi generational farms. They make long term, exclusive contracts with these farms. They make sure they are using the best sustainable and ethical practices. And they make sure these farmers are paid on time and fairly.
But let’s address this question: “can we visit the farms?”
Are we even asking the right question?
No. That’s the wrong question.
The right question: Does my essential oil company rigorously test every batch of essential oils using a third party company and then POST THOSE RESULTS ONLINE?
We should be asking whether the oil is pure and potent. We should be asking if the farmers are being paid fairly. We should be asking if sustainable practices are being used.
Let’s start asking the right questions.
Go check out www.sourcetoyou.com Go grab a bottle of your doTERRA Essential Oil, go to the Source To You site, plug in your lot number from the bottom of the bottle, and check out those purity tests!! THAT is real transparency.
Cō-Impact Sourcing Model
I am so proud to get essential oils from a company that works hand in hand with small artisan farmers. DoTERRA makes long term contracts with these farmers.
You can work with small farms and still have high quality products.
A large company does NOT have to “own” the whole process to guarantee quality control. Since when are people excited to support a giant corporation over family farms?
In addition to supplying the highest quality essential oils doTERRA is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to doTERRA’s oil production.
With over 100 essential oils in its product line, doTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries —more than half of which could be considered developing countries. To ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically, doTERRA has introduced an initiative called Co-Impact Sourcing.
Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. doTERRA is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and harvesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity.
Additionally, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® helps support development projects in sourcing communities. Projects include schools, health clinics, improved infrastructure and clean water systems.
