To some of you this post may seem stupid – to others, it’ll be like a god-send. If you aren’t from a city that has a metro, it can be very intimidating to have to take the sub places. Let me give you a HUGE tip to help you navigate the Metro like a pro – even in a country where they don’t speak English.
Navigate the Metro like a Pro
My husband and I just got back a trip to Europe. It was our 6 year anniversary trip and it was a lot of fun. We decided day by day what to do and where to go! We knew that the Metro was the best way to get around any downtown places – and even further out places, depending on the region.
We start off our journey in London. It was so easy – we speak English so we could ask for help or directions at any point. We just asked for a trip plan or we’d use a map. It wasn’t too hard to figure out – but a huge part of that was that there was no language barrier. Plus we hadn’t figured out my little trick yet – that didn’t come until we got to Paris. And even if I HAD figured it out – the metro maps aren’t quite available yet in London. Hopefully they come out with the London maps soon.
We were figuring out where exactly we need to go in Paris and what tickets we would need. I pulled up our destination in our map and up pops a notification – “downloading metro map.”
WHAT???
I wanted to jump up and down. This existed??? I probably sound dumb to the people that ride a metro everyday – but to me this was new! I didn’t totally mind using a map and planning out our trips, but goodness, this option was going to be WAY easier.
Use the Maps App
You guys, it’s so easy.
- Open up your Maps app.
- Enter your destination.
- Choose to travel by transit.
- Press go!
- Follow the directions!
The map will show you each train you need to take, where to get off, what exits to take, and even how often each train runs. It’s SO simple. Plus, if the whole language barrier thing freaks you out – this will all be in your language.
