We do a lot of traveling and we visit a lot of different places. Williamsburg, Jamestown, and the Naval Museum & Nauticus are places I could visit over and over throughout the years with our kids. These places are not only fun and educational, they are incredibly interactive! They all deserve Gold Stars.
Let me give you a little glimpse into our trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and then to the Naval Museum in Norfolk.
Colonial Williamsburg
Williamsburg has a long road lined with tradeshops. In these shop you can watch live demonstrations. In this shop we got to watch the shoemaker make shoes and ask questions! There is so much to see at Williamsburg even for our toddlers!
Our little girl loved seeing the horses!

Check out the coffee shop for coffee or hot chocolate! It was included and immediately followed by a short tour.
Historic Jamestown
First thing I want you to know is that there are TWO. The REAL Jamestown and the rebuilt Jamestown Settlement. Both are worth seeing. Check out the Jamestown Settlement to see what the settlement looked like before it was destroyed, walk through the museum, and interact with the many demonstrations! The settlement even has a few ships docked – you can see what the Mayflower might have looked like!
And then drive over the the actual Jamestown site run by the National Parks Service. It’s ALWAYS worth seeing anything by the NPS.
Here are some of things you’ll see:
Naval Museum & Nauticus
These two museums are in the same building. The Naval museum is very small – worth looking through – but small. Definitely do the Naval portion AND the full Nauticus museum. It’s all on the same site – plus you can walk through a REAL battleship!
I was so impressed with the Nauticus Museum. This is one of the most interactive museums I’ve taken my kids too (besides a children’s museum). This is a place to really learn and have fun.
Here are some things you can do:
They even have some live creatures! We got to pet a Horseshoe crab!
You can walk all over the deck AND through a number of floors inside the battleship!
Enjoy your trip, relax, and learn something!
